Picture update

Added more pictures from our trip to Moody Gardens’ in Galveston. It was nice, but probably not worth $40 entrance fee. The fee did include an imax showing. We saw a 3D imax about the rainforet. The 3D in imax format was absolutely amazing. I wonder if 3D will ever go mainstream.

Steak Dinner

It was Hrod’s birthday this week so I took her to Morton’s Steakhouse to celebrate. Ya gotta love a girl who likes to eat steak. The food was excellent. Heather had a beefsteak tomato salad for an appetizer followed by a large fillet smoothered in mushrooms with a side of mashed potatoes (a ’side’ is too conservative, more like a tureen of mashed potatoes). I had the raw bluepoint oysters for an appetizer followed by a perfectly cooked (rare to medium rare) 24oz porterhouse along with a baked potato that had at least one stick of butter in it. Desert was fresh berries with a sabayon sauce (whip cream with booze — yes, I had to ask). Can’t rave enough about the food.

The atmosphere was a little disappointing though. The reservation was at 8P and the resaurant was probably only 20% full (a possible sign of the economy?). Our waiter looked very very young, for this kind a money I prefer to be waited on by someone who doesn’t look like they belong behind the counter at micky D’s. About halfway through our meal a couple (must have been from out of town) was seated at the table behind us. Every few minutes, the man would boom out ‘This is money, this is so money!’ Not sure if he was complaining about the prices or simply trying to impress his girl with what a nice place he brought her to. And finally, we dressed to the 9’s (ie suit for me) only to have the couple beside us wearing blue jeans (albeit trendy blue jeans) — so much for the dress code.

Can’t stand the stuff

The web’s definitive site on dehydrated spinach. How many anchor links will it take for this to be reflected in google?

Sprouted onions

Please help settle an ongoing discussion in the apartmentlet. If a typical oninion (yellow, spanish etc) has sprouted (small green shoots) should it be used? Apartmentlet dweller A believes that an onion with sprouts is still an onion and that we eat green onions all the time which have sprouts by their very nature. Apartmentlet dweller B however, feels that complex sugars in the onion have likely been broken down and metabolized to support the growth of these new green shoots, thus affecting the taste. Also they just look mutant and who wants to eat bad looking vegetables? Thoughts?

arterial spurt

Finally saw ‘Kill Bill vol. I‘ with Hrod last nite. We went to the local blockbuster and rented the movie along with disc one of CSI season 2. As an aside, I noticed that blockbluster is going to begin a netflix like business model at the end of may. Pay one monthly fee, rent as many movies as you like, no late fee, two out at any time…. But back to Kill Bill, Hrod summed it up best when after seeing 15 minutes of the film declared, ‘I don’t like this…it seems too quentin tarantino’. I on the other hand was both amused (ya gotta love buck and his mission in life) and bored (20 min fight scenes). Will probably see vol. II. Any thoughts on vol II?

We’re back!

After 7 days of laying on a cancun beach we had to return to sadly return to Boston. More to come later, but for now the pictures are up in the images section.
