Hackers....
2004-04-09 00:00:00
One of our computers at work was compromised by hackers. Not sure how long they have been there. Looked like multiple groups had been using the computer for a playground. At least one entity had the proverbial root access. Not good. Another entity was just likely script kiddies they broke in with a weak password one of users had -- and installed an irc proxy in /tmp under a hidden directory (the old name a directory ' ' trick. They made no efforts to even conceal the fact the proxy was running. The root entity is more scary. Not sure how many backdoors they may have installed or passwords sniffed. All in all, I blame apple for not supporting old versions of OSX server. For the mean time I have firewalled the server to the world. Will install a new $900 version of OSX in the next few weeks. If only I could talk the boss into installing Debian linux on all the computers.
